Crimson Desert's First Major Expansion Moves to October 29 — the Same Day as Phantom Blade Zero

Pearl Abyss moved Crimson Desert's first major expansion to October 29 — the same day Phantom Blade Zero launches. What changed, why, and what's inside.

October 29, the launch date of Phantom Blade Zero, just picked up another heavyweight release. In late September, Pearl Abyss announced through the official X account of Crimson Desert Enhanced that the open-world action-adventure game's first major expansion, Charting the Unknown, has slipped by two weeks: from its original October 15 date to October 29 — the very day Phantom Blade Zero arrives on PS5 and PC. As of October 3, 2026, that shared date is a little under four weeks away.

This article walks through the official delay statement and how the coverage unfolded, what the expansion contains and what it costs, and how the two releases line up on October 29 in terms of unlock times and platforms.

The delay: what Pearl Abyss announced

The first reports of the delay came from Noisy Pixel and FullCleared, both published on September 30, with mxdwn following on October 1. All three outlets agree on the core facts: in a statement posted to the game's official X account, Pearl Abyss said the team had determined the expansion needed additional development time to deliver a more polished and stable gameplay experience, and that it had therefore decided to move the release back two weeks to October 29.

Each report adds its own details. Noisy Pixel, credited to Orpheus Joshua, confirms the two-week shift and notes that the extra time will go toward further refining the content. FullCleared, credited to Jason Siu, went up at 10:01 AM Pacific that morning, adds that the statement also apologized for the longer wait, and pins down the unlock time: 3:00 PM Pacific on October 29, which is 6:00 PM Eastern. mxdwn, credited to Jorge Peredo, transcribes the English wording of the statement, in which the new date is written as "October 29 GMT/PT".

Converted to other time zones, that unlock moment lands at 22:00 UTC: 6:00 AM on October 30 in Beijing, 7:00 AM in Tokyo, and 11:00 PM Central European Time on October 29 (converted from the Pacific anchor using standard timezone rules). In other words, by North American local time the expansion goes live in the afternoon of the day — it does not unlock at midnight when the date rolls over.

wccftech's headline for the delay framed the reshuffled October 29 as a harder choice for players, now that the day is more crowded. That is that outlet's framing at the headline level; the event itself is best taken from the three reports above.

A check of the Steam listing on October 3 shows the store page already updated to October 29, 2026, with the pre-purchase section still live and the US price still listed at $24.99 — the delay has not interrupted pre-orders.

What actually moved: the base game shipped in March, and this is its first major expansion

It helps to be precise about what changed. The delay statement itself concerns only the expansion; the base game's availability and the free Enhanced update are not part of it. Crimson Desert Enhanced, the base game, is an open-world action-adventure set on the continent of Pywel, where the protagonist Kliff works to rebuild the Greymane faction — that is the game's own store description on Steam. The base game launched on March 19, 2026 at $69.99 in the US, developed and published by Pearl Abyss, and is available on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC; the PC details come from Steam's store data, and the console platforms were confirmed in Noisy Pixel's report. Noisy Pixel also notes that the Enhanced version of the base game is provided as a free update, covering the same three platforms.

The thing that moved, Charting the Unknown, is the base game's first major expansion. On Steam's Chinese storefront the entry carries the official localized name, with the full listing reading "Crimson Desert Enhanced - Charting the Unknown" in English. According to FullCleared's recap, it was revealed during the September 3 State of Play with an original release date of October 15. That State of Play was one of Sony's general showcase events — not the same broadcast as Phantom Blade Zero's dedicated State of Play on August 18. The Steam store page now lists October 29, 2026 as the release date at $24.99 in the US, and the expansion is planned for PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, with Steam and the Epic Games Store named as the PC storefronts (the Epic listing comes via FullCleared's report). For completeness: the base game's Steam page also lists a Deluxe Pack and an Original Soundtrack as separate store items, and the first-major-expansion label refers to the story expansion itself.

Pre-orders come with two diving-themed cosmetic sets: the Charter's Diving Set for Kliff and Oongka, and the Charter's Light Diving Set for Damiane, as reported by FullCleared. Those are the English names as written in the coverage.

What's in Charting the Unknown: sailing, diving and new stories

The expansion's store page leads with the tagline "Reach Beyond, Into the Unknown", and the official description under it lays out several concrete content pillars:

  • Sea and underwater: players can take command of their own ship and set sail from Pywel's coastline to explore new islands off the coast, then dive beneath the waves to uncover underwater treasures, sunken ruins and hidden mysteries.
  • New enemies: formidable foes await across both land and sea, and the official copy frames these as the game's fiercest battles yet, telling players to adapt their tactics.
  • Management and life: a variety of facilities can be rented and managed to earn income; an upgraded Housing mode lets players build a home that is truly their own; and expanded interactions with the people of Pywel open the way to deeper bonds.
  • New stories: the official text lists an ominous presence in the desert, a dangerous political conflict, a journey beyond time, and an ancient secret beneath the waves; Kliff, Oongka and Damiane each move forward in their own direction, and by the store copy's account, each will forge their own path, discover their purpose and shape their destiny.

The point that these stories continue after the events of the base game also appears in Noisy Pixel's report, matching the store description. The store description is the expansion's own primary text, and it is the closest thing to an official content list available before launch.

Same day as Phantom Blade Zero: October 29 now has two unlock times

October 29 is now a shared release date, but the two releases are not the same kind of thing: one is a new game's launch, the other is an expansion for a game that shipped months ago. Both are aimed at action-game players, yet their prices and platforms differ clearly. There is also an easily missed timing detail: under the expansion's original October 15 date, it would have landed two weeks before Phantom Blade Zero; after the delay, the two now share a day. The day roughly lines up like this:

Phantom Blade ZeroCharting the Unknown
What it isNew game launchFirst major expansion for a released base game
StructureEight ink-wash maps in a semi-open hubOpen-world expansion
PlatformsPS5, PC (Steam/Epic)PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC (Steam/Epic)
US price$59.99 / $69.99$24.99
Unlock timeOct 29, 02:00 UTC (Oct 28 evening, Pacific)Oct 29, 3:00 PM Pacific (6:00 PM Eastern)

There is a coincidence worth noting in China: the base game's price on Steam China, ¥268, matches what Phantom Blade Zero's standard edition costs there, while the expansion lists at ¥108 in that region. In US terms, $24.99 works out to a little over a third of the base game's $69.99 price, and about forty percent of Phantom Blade Zero's $59.99 standard edition.

Placed on a single UTC timeline, the two unlock moments are exactly 20 hours apart — that figure is simply the distance between the two official unlock stamps on the UTC clock: Phantom Blade Zero goes live at 02:00 UTC on October 29 — 10:00 AM in Beijing that morning, late evening of October 28 on the US West Coast — while the expansion follows at 22:00 UTC, which is already early morning of October 30 in Beijing. Players in the Americas can step into Phantom Blade Zero on the night of October 28 and meet the expansion the next afternoon; in Asia, the two moments fall on the morning of October 29 and the early morning of October 30. The same "October 29" label lands in very different places on the calendar depending on where the player is.

The platform split is worth noting too: the expansion covers Xbox Series X|S, while Phantom Blade Zero has no Xbox version and ships only on PS5 and PC (our Xbox explainer covers where that stands). Phantom Blade Zero has also been confirmed for the PS5 Pro Enhanced program (see our dedicated piece).

Phantom Blade Zero's date and unlock time come from official PlayStation Store data, previously verified region by region: the PS Store pages in every language list 2026-10-29T02:00:00Z, which is why the US Steam page shows October 28 — the full timezone breakdown is in our unlock times explainer. Both unlock stamps in the table above come from official listings rather than estimates.

It is worth noting that October 29 is a moved date for both releases — and that both studios pointed at the same kind of reason: trading more development time for a more polished launch. Crimson Desert's expansion statement lands on the same ground of a more polished, stable experience. Phantom Blade Zero's own road to this date — the full sequence and the director's open letter — is laid out in our delay timeline. How the whole month fits together was covered earlier in our October launch window piece.

As of this writing on October 3, 2026, the PlayStation Store still lists Phantom Blade Zero's unlock stamp as 2026-10-29T02:00:00Z, the Steam listing for the expansion still shows October 29, and neither side has shown any sign of moving the date again. The expansion's delay has no bearing on Phantom Blade Zero's release plans; if either date, price or scope changes through official channels, those channels are the authoritative source.
